Multimedia encompasses different formats of sound, still and moving images. This includes physical resources in the library collection such as television programs, films, documentaries and music recordings as well as online media.

Online media may be streaming media or individual files (for example, digital images or sound files) for download. Generally, online multimedia material is best accessed via streaming media providers such as YouTube as this makes the content much more accessible to people on lower internet speeds. Audio files are much smaller to download and are often called podcasts when released in a series.

Use multimedia to:

  • Find creative works for analysis and criticism
  • Find primary sources e.g. interviews, famous speeches
  • Find summaries of research topics e.g. documentaries
  • Find materials to use in presentations or posters
